Minnesota Timberwolves Guard Mike Conley Wins Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award
The Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award has been bestowed upon Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley for the 2023-24 season. This prestigious award recognizes the player who exemplifies selfless play, leadership both on and off the court, mentorship to fellow NBA players, and a strong commitment to their team.
The announcement came following a shoot-around ahead of Game 5 between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, where Derrick White spoke highly of Al Horford’s candidacy for the award. White praised Horford for his selflessness and dedication to helping others, stating that every teammate of Horford’s would agree he is deserving of the honor.
Despite finishing in sixth place in the voting, Horford received recognition for his contributions, garnering 21 first-place votes and 634 total tallies. However, it was Conley who ultimately secured the award with an impressive 1,172 votes. This marks Conley’s second time winning the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award, having previously earned the accolade for the 2018-19 season.
Throughout the season, Horford showcased his versatility and adaptability by willingly accepting a role off the bench for the Celtics. Despite starting the majority of his 1,180 NBA games prior to this season, Horford embraced his new role and continued to make significant contributions to the team. In the playoffs, he has been a key player for the Celtics, especially with teammate Kristaps Porzingis sidelined due to injury.
As the Celtics look to advance in the playoffs, Horford’s leadership and selfless play will be crucial to their success. The veteran center’s dedication to his team and willingness to sacrifice for the greater good make him a deserving candidate for the Twyman-Stokes Teammate of the Year Award.
