Teams are questioning Trae Young as the number one pick and are showing a preference for the Hawks’ Dejounte Murray.

Atlanta Hawks Reportedly Looking to Trade All-Star Guard Trae Young This Summer

The Atlanta Hawks are facing a big decision this summer as they reportedly plan to “try hard” to trade All-Star guard Trae Young. According to Kurt Helin of NBC Sports, the Hawks may have difficulty finding takers for Young, as most teams prefer fellow guard Dejounte Murray.

Helin explained, “They are going to try hard to trade Trae Young. That’s going to happen. But from people I’ve talked to around the league, these calls often go something like this, ‘Trae Young, yeah, what would that [trade] look like? By the way, is Dejounte available?’ People in the league just like Dejounte’s game better.”

Young, a three-time All-Star, has at least two years left on his five-year, $215.2 million contract. On the other hand, Murray is just starting a four-year, $114.1 million deal with the Hawks. While Murray has made only one All-Star team compared to Young’s three, his lower cost and ability to fit into various offensive systems make him an attractive option for teams.

Murray has shown his ability to excel when Young is not on the court, averaging 25.1 points, 9.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds in 28 games without Young this season. Young, known for his offensive prowess and playmaking skills, struggles on defense and requires a specific offensive ecosystem to thrive.

It remains to be seen what the Hawks will ultimately have to settle for in a trade involving Young, but it’s clear that they are exploring their options to potentially move on from the talented guard. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
